APPROACHING THE END

It is a commonly told story that cats nearing the end of their lives just disappear, going off on their own to hide away and die. This does appear to be the case for some cats and it is believed that one of the reasons for it is because, in evolutionary terms, being ill and frail would make them easy prey for predators. Hence, by hiding away they are less vulnerable to attack. This is the same reason why cats are very good at hiding signs that they are in pain, as again this would make them more vulnerable to danger of attack. The concern over this situation is that you won’t know whether your cat has passed away in pain, or whether they had a peaceful end. This is at least something that you have control over if you choose euthanasia.
